Q. How long have you been working at MarketMakers?
11 years.
Q. What did you do before MarketMakers?
Before MarketMakers I worked in retail and then hospitality, before working on a B2C campaign for an alternative telemarketing agency.
Q. What made you want a job at MarketMakers?
The money and career prospects were better, I had heard good things about the company.
Q. What position did you start in at MarketMakers, and what positions did you progress into?
I started as an Account Executive in Bureau and worked my way through the 5 Tier Progression Programme, Then through Optimum to become a Direct Marketing Manager. I then moved from Bureau to Key as I wanted to learn the different areas of the business. I am currently Operations Manager of the MMi department and I oversee MarketMakers largest client campaign – Checkatrade.
Q. Do you think progressing has been easy, have you been given enough opportunities?
Promotions on the phone are for everyone, but the higher promotions are much harder to come by. They take time, skills and organisation.
Q. Talk to me about the support that was offer- have you completed any programmes through The Business School?
I completed the Optimum programme which took me about 8/9 months, this landed me a job as a Team Manager. The programme is good because it lets you know exactly what you need to achieve to get to the next level. It has also given me the skills to develop other managers who are following in my footsteps.
Q. What do you like the most about working at MarketMakers?
I enjoy the atmosphere and the incentive programmes the company has to offer. I think trips abroad and bonus’ help motivate staff and give the business a family feel.
There is also a great social side to MarketMakers outside of incentives which is always fun.
Q. How are you planning to progress next, are you currently involved in any programmes?
Moving forward, I would love to grow as an Operation Manager and continue to develop Team Managers within the growing Checkatrade campaign.
Q. Are you offered support in your role, who is your manager what do they do for you?
Before I became Direct Marketing Manager I spent most of my time on the phones where Jodie Goodchild helped to mentor and inspire me. After moving into a Team Manager role, Justin provided support and pushed me towards Operations Manager. Clare Pugh is now my direct line manager, she always offers support and guidance which helps me be the best I can at my job.
Q. Do you use your progression to help inspire other members of staff?
I have mentored many people to become a Team Manager by completing the Optimum Leadership Programme.
Q. Do you have any personal goals that MarketMakers has helped you to achieve or any that you are currently working towards?
Being promoted at MarketMakers and having the opportunity to earn more money has allowed me to have a better lifestyle whilst also saving for a house. I have also been encouraged to take my driving test, buy a car and have been able to go on multiple holidays.
