Every year at MarketMakers, we raise money through different methods to support Building Schools For Africa. These methods include; GAYE (Give As You Earn), vending machine profits, dress down Fridays, our annual charity ball and the annual charity challenge. This year we have chosen the Yorkshire Three Peaks to be our charity challenge 2017. The challenge takes place on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The peaks form park of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Peaks are arranged in a triangle, with the River Ribble and two minor B roads between them. The total walking distance is 39.2km (24.5 mile) and includes 5200ft (1585m) of ascent. The event will take place from Friday 23rd June – Sunday 25th June 2017.

Not only is this an exciting challenge for our employees to raise money for a worthy cause, it is a great bonding and team building exercise where they can enjoy the fun social aspect to the event. As the challenge is likely to take all of Saturday, it is recommended to stay local before and after the challenge. This gives a chance for everyone to bond pre event and celebrate together after.

The money raised has dramatically helped the community in Cameroon. Last year MarketMakers raised £50k which has paid for the following to be built within the community of Bangolan;

  • 2 x schools (totalling 5 classrooms)
  • 3 x new water supplies (well and pump)
  • A complete refurbishment of the health centre.

This has had an incredible impact upon the village that until last year did not have any of the above at all.

Over the years, we have done some truly amazing charity challenges from climbing the three peaks, trekking the south downs from Buriton to Brighton and Mission to London. Together, we have raised a large amount of money for our chosen charity of Building Schools For Africa which has really changed lives for many communities in Cameroon.

Look out for our updates on how the team have done in this years’ Three Peaks Challenge, Yorkshire later in the year.
