A next wave of Alan Sugars are being put through their paces at a special boot camp
The universities of Portsmouth, Winchester, Southampton and Southampton Solent have joined forces for the Hampshire Innovation Enterprise Boot Camp aimed at creating entrepreneurs of the future.
The event, which is being held at the University of Winchester for three days this week, brings together 10 enterprise students from each university to work in mixed-institution teams.
The initiative is spearheaded by Hampshire Economic Partnership's Innovation Enterprise Task Group.
Tom Thomas, dean of Southampton Business School at Southampton Solent University and member of the task group, is co-coordinating the project.
The boot camp is based on an initiative run through the SET squared Partnership a collaboration of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey.
The boot camp students will develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of enterprise through interactive sessions that will provide greater insights into topics such as competition, business planning and marketing.
They will also benefit from input from some of the South's leading entrepreneurs, including Portsmouth based Paul Thomas, of Market Makers.
One of the projects will see each team of students provided with £50 and let loose in Winchester with the prerequisite that they come back with more money.
The students will have to use all they have learned from the initiative and make a five-minute presentation tomorrow to an investor panel of representatives from Business Link Wessex, Hampshire Economic Partnership and the Institute of Commercial Management.
Prizes will be awarded for the best presentation, most creative ideas and best business plan.
The dean said The boot camp is a fantastic opportunity to bring together some of the country's most talented enterprise students in a collaborative venture across all of Hampshires highest education institutions.
TV programmes such as The Apprentice and Dragon's Den have created a greater awareness of entrepreneurship. Lets hope some of the students attending this boot camp demonstrate the potential to become the James Dyson or Alan Sugar of the future.
